Government of Nepal Revises Minimum Wage to Strengthen Labor Rights (2025 Update)

The Government of Nepal has officially revised the minimum wage structure in a move aimed at improving the economic well-being of workers and aligning compensation with the rising cost of living. This update reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to labor welfare, fair pay, and inclusive economic growth.

New Minimum Wage in Nepal 2025 (Effective from 2082/03/32)

As decided in the ministerial meeting held by the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security, the revised minimum wage 2025 in Nepal is applicable to all sectors except tea estates. The new wage components are structured as follows:

Total Minimum Monthly Wage: NPR 19,550

  • Basic Monthly Salary: NPR 12,170
  • Dearness Allowance: NPR 7,380

 

Updated Daily and Hourly Wages in Nepal 2025

To ensure equitable pay for all work types, including flexible and part-time jobs, the government has also updated the daily and hourly wage rates:

For Daily Wage Workers:

  • Basic Wage: NPR 470
  • Dearness Allowance: NPR 284
  • Total Daily Wage: NPR 754

For Hourly Wage Workers:

  • Standard Hourly Rate: NPR 101
  • Part-Time Hourly Rate: NPR 107

Legal Framework for Minimum Wage Revision in Nepal

This wage revision aligns with Section 106(1) of the Labour Act, 2074, which mandates wage review every two years. The Minimum Wage Fixation Committee, as outlined in Section 107, plays a key advisory role in determining appropriate wage levels by assessing market trends, inflation, and worker needs.

Previous minimum wage (until 2082): NPR 17,300
New minimum wage (from 2082/03/32): NPR 19,550
