Metallurgist – Precious Metals

Qualification: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in metallurgical roles with a focus on precious metals processing.

Location: Kathmandu, Nepal

Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of mineral processing principles, metallurgical unit operations, and process engineering fundamentals.
  • Experience with mineralogical analysis techniques, metallurgical testing procedures, and process simulation software.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and optimize process performance.
  • Proficiency in project management, technical writing, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements in mineral processing operations.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Professional certifications or memberships in relevant industry associations (e.g., SME, AusIMM) are a plus.

Responsibilities:

  1. Metallurgical Process Optimization: Optimize and improve metallurgical processes involved in the extraction, recovery, and refining of precious metals to maximize efficiency, recovery rates, and product quality.
  2. Mineralogical Analysis: Conduct mineralogical studies and analysis to understand ore characteristics, identify mineral phases, and develop appropriate processing strategies for precious metal ores.
  3. Metallurgical Testing: Plan, oversee, and interpret metallurgical test work including flotation, leaching, gravity separation, and other processes to evaluate ore behavior and determine optimal processing conditions.
  4. Process Design: Develop and review process flowsheets, equipment selection, and plant design criteria for precious metal projects, ensuring adherence to safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
  5. Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, and efficiency improvements through data analysis, troubleshooting, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  6. Quality Assurance and Control: Implement quality control measures to ensure the consistency and quality of metallurgical processes and final metal products, adhering to industry standards and specifications.
  7. Project Management: Manage metallurgical projects, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation, to ensure timely and successful completion of milestones and deliverables.
  8. Technical Support: Provide technical support and expertise to operations, engineering, and maintenance teams, troubleshooting process issues, and implementing corrective actions as needed.
  9. Research and Development: Stay updated on industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices in precious metal processing, and contribute to research and development initiatives to drive innovation and process improvements.
